Hodge Still Rolling at U.S. Amateur

CHASKA, Minn.—Chattanooga sophomore Jonathan Hodge never trailed, advancing to the third round of the U.S. Amateur with a 3 and 2 win over John Hahn at Hazeltine National Golf Club on Thursday.

Hahn’s bogey on the second hole gave Hodge an early lead which he increased to 2 up with a birdie on the par 5 third. Back-to-back birdies on the 10th and 11th pushed Hodge’s lead to 4 up with seven holes remaining. Hahn trimmed the lead to 3 up with a birdie at 14 before Hodge closed out the match with consecutive pars on 15 and 16.

Hodge, who was 1-under par for the day, has not trailed in either of his matches. In fact, he has led after 26 of the 29 holes he has played in those matches.

Numerous rain delays prevented the third round from being played Thursday afternoon. Instead Hodge will face British Walker Cupper and ninth seeded Oliver Fisher at 8:10 (CDT) tomorrow morning. The winner will play again at 1:10 p.m., where top seed Billy Horschel potentially awaits.
