Mocs Sign Swedish Star Fredrik Qvicker

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.—Sweden’s Fredrik Qvicker has signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf and continue his education at Chattanooga, UTC head coach Mark Guhne announced Wednesday.

Qvicker is ranked 18th in the Swedish Junior rankings of all players 21 and younger.  The Stockholm native is a 2005 graduate of Ubandbo Gymnasium School.

Qvicker was a member of the Junior National team until his 20th birthday.  He is coached by Johan Almgren, whose rise to international prominence coincided with star pupil Annika Sorenstam.

“The first time I saw him play, I quickly realized that he is ready for big-time college golf” said Guhne.  “Compared to most incoming freshmen, Fredrik has already taken his game to another level.”

Qvicker plays for the Lindö Golf Club and is the three-time club champion.  In 38 junior tournaments, Quicker has four wins and twelve other Top-10 finishes.

The Mocs just competed their most successful season in recent history and were No. 89 in the final Golfstat rankings.  That is the highest ranking in the history of the program. As a result, first year head coach Mark Guhne was honored as the Southern Conference Coach-of-the-Year.
